Bossard Group : Tesla’s Preferred Fastener Supplier

Headquartered in Zug, Switzerland, Bossard Group is a global designer and manufacturer of fastening technology—including screws, nuts, bolts, woodscrews, washers, and pins. Founded in 1831 as a hardware store, Bossard today supports a product range exceeding 800,000 items. The agreement, worth USD$140 million, is for Bossard to produce fasteners, engineering, and logistical services. The significance of this partnership has driven Bossard to open a new distribution facility near the Tesla factory in Fremont, California. This collaboration is not the first between Bossard and Tesla.

For over four years, the two firms co-designed and co-developed the innovative Model S—the world’s first premium electric sedan. Utilizing its exclusive inventory management system Smartbin, Bossard engineered, prototyped, and delivered production fasteners to Tesla. As a result of this partnership, Bossard experienced a sharply increased sales volume. Today, Bossard is a global network employing 1,800 workers across 60 international facilities. For the fiscal year 2013, Bossard Goup reported USD$653 million in revenues. 63% of sales stems from Europe, 22% from America, and 15% from Asia.
